/ Peering over the edge of their second year, Program is re-engaging with some of the acts they broke last summer for some equally impressive follow-up releases. Kove is the first to return to the label. A talented tattooed tearaway with a taste for both the blazing beats and the deeper side of the dance, both cuts on his Program debut - ‘Iodine’ and ‘Open Ground’ - became instant 2012 dancefloor standards, championed by key players across the board.
‘Gone’ continues his promising audio armoury with distinct maturity. Breathy and breezy, its stunning depths become apparent from the very first fluttering pad. Coated in a beautifully underplayed vocal hook, ‘Gone’ rolls with blistered bass grace as staccato kicks and snares puncture the otherwise dreamy ambience… And the groove masterfully develops with timeless dancefloor dynamics. Rolling but never quite rampaging, it represents everything that you fell in love with drum & bass in the first place: subtleties, sophistication and just a slight sense of pensive menace.
‘Airlock’ follows. Allowing the vocal to play more of a dominant role in the mix, it’s Kove at his most yearning and poignant. Opening with a blast of minor key euphoria, the skippy, snappy breakbeats take complete control of the groove, bowing a big nod to drum & bass’s most formative period. Stark and solid, warm and rolling, as ‘Airlock’ develops we’re treated a fine balance of cruising synth washes and laidback guitar licks as the vocal whistles deep in the well-textured mix. If you’re looking to hypnotise your floor any time soon then look no further… This will have your crowd locked in tighter than a state penitentiary.

/ Andrew Tweedale and James Evans are Amoss, and, together with Horizons Music, invite you to take a trip inside the universe of Tangent.
Tangent is the latest in a succession of high quality releases, coming as it does after sessions for Dispatch, Renegade Hardware and now, Horizons. As with the rest of their output, Tangent, which is backed with the Geode remix, shows off their technical abilities and their unifying desire to move the crowd. Their mutual love of music, and early experience in a range of bands, has transmogrified into a searing, urgent awareness of what is funky and groovy in d&b.; Tangent, in the two forms on show here, will only increase their visibility and star status within the scene.
The original version is classic Amoss. Building slowly and deliberately, the anticipation increases with every second. You’re still on edge as the track rolls along, with melody intertwining with some smooth percussion, after the drop. The beat moves in later on, with some 80s–style synth work going on. Amoss prove that they are not just the angry young men of their techstep output, with some soul breaking through the multiple samples which will make Tangent one for the thinkers out there.
Geode flips the script with a remix which offers a glitch, glimmering take on the track. Again working up slowly, Geode adds in clicks, ticks and a stuttering, skittering drum beat. The effect is different, but the dreamlike, almost filmic nature of the original is maintained. A really different spin on Tangent is captured through the remix, as it weaves and twists between your ears.
Amoss present a varied, unique approach to music, and always have a fresh, undaunted sound to their tracks. Tangent is the best example yet of this young duo’s work and with Horizons representing all that is exciting about bass music in 2013, you better get yourselves on this Tangent now. | | schließen |

/ After only two years since their first release on Cyclone, Amoss have become one of the most exciting and forward thinking names in drum & bass. A love of music stretching back into both their pasts, the duo have amazed audiences across the globe with the style, panache and variation which has characterised their work. Taking a lead from names such as Renegade Hardware and Moving Shadow, James and Andrew have successfully moulded their influences into a futuristic, genre-defining sound.
Now they are ready to step up a notch, delivering a new release for the mighty Horizons label. Bumbaclart and Dilate will go a long way to cementing their reputation for big, bad and heavy d&b;, which has seen them being supported by Spectrasoul, London Elektricity, Storm, Loxy and more. Amoss are known for their involving, evolving blend of beats and bass and their in-depth knowledge of the technical side of production, and the two tracks on show here are markers of their intention, in two markedly different ways.
Bumbaclart is a deep, dark look into a Jamaican-inspired nightmare. Claustrophobic, mind-melding atmospherics surround a spoken intro, before a deceptively simple beat/bass dichotomy kicks in later on. An explanation of the meaning of the word is surrounded by pounding, groove-fuelled melodies, leaving you reeling and reaching for more. Amoss build worlds with everything they do, and they do this expertly on Bumbaclart.
Dilate, meanwhile, builds from an initial electric pulse to a steady-growing groover, by way of some neat percussion. The underlying pulse gets louder, invading your mind, as layers are added on top. Amoss’s sound is addictive, almost catching you unawares with its complexity and artistry.
