/ Fluxus is Danny Scrilla’s first transmission for Civil Music and the Munich based producers second release. Following on from 2012s Flash Powder EP for Om Unit’s ‘Cosmic Bridge’ label, ‘Fluxus’ sees Scrilla in expected fine form, and takes in four original neck snapping instrumental tracks plus two remixes from Japan’s Deep Medi member Goth-Trad and London producer and one to watch Deft. On Fluxus Scrilla’s productions run at 80-90BPM / 160-180 BPM exploiting slowfast halftime tempos yet are seemingly engineered from the sonic essence of ’06 OG dubstep’s dark sparse dreadnought sounds, with waves of quaking bass growing under iced-out percussion accentuated by toiling snares. Floating chords and hypnotic melodies drive skeletal riddims, sci-fi synthlines arc over the spacious heavyweight ruffage built for towering stacks and pitch black rooms. | | schließen |

The extended play fires off with Winchester based DJ / Producer Tanka delivering another floor filler ‘Someone tell me’ with his distinct flavour of bass and beats, accompanied by melodic synth flutters backed by chopped and screwed vocal elements. The second track steps up the pace with D Warrior’s ‘Back Off Shorty’, a minimal bass led track which reels you into an outbreak of hard hitting snares for maximum impact, mutating in and out of 4/4 patterns with a catchy vocal hook for everyone to sing along to. Pyramid Scheme is a triangulated collaboration between CDNephew, D Warrior and Akito who supply the third rhythm on the release ‘Eight Ball Model’, mounting up the tension with dissonant over-driven chords and echoed atmospherics, drawing on a hybrid of influences far and wide. The last of the first is a powerful 140 grime influenced take on Pyramid Scheme’s ‘Eight Ball Model’ delivered by Famous Eno on remix duty, reaching for his his deadly clap and snare combinations with rib rattling bass stomps and vocal challenges. | | schließen |

The inside “Smoke Wine” is more in the vein of last years smash “Yo Vogue,” yet more understated and deep which is rare for the genre. When I play these at the right time they always solicit an audible “ooooh” from the crowd at thedrops. Remix #1 is by Justin Martin who really blows it up dirtybird style with almost a breakbeat old school electro beat. Remix #2 is by dirtybird newcomers GoldFFinch via Belgium who also deliver a really funk laden club version. Leading on from his recent ‘After The Storm’ EP (LAB012), the ‘Dolphin EP’ is another display of Clue’s well-heeled versatility and continual sonic growth, demonstrating why his extensive back catalogue of work continues to carry such high regard. As Cluekid’s most sought after dubplate in recent times, the A-side, ‘Dolphin’, is simply a masterclass in stellar meditation. Combining the bold sense of musicality of his previous releases with an expertly crafted arrangement, ‘Dolphin’ is certainly the epitome of Cluekid’s turquoise excursions. This melodic cut is as densely composed as it is meticulously stunning, as a serene melody ebbs and flows effortlessly with an undeniably unique deep-blue aura. The AA-side, ‘Fossil’, leans towards the mistier quadrants of Cluekid’s sonic signature, readily articulating all of the melancholic nuances of his work’s classic after hours vibes.
