long player 'Obsolete Medium' for release through Shogun Audio. Fusing
the boundaries between drum & bass, trap, hip hop, house and
cinematic soundscapes, there's no mistaking the sound of Rockwell,
bringing the most intricate production to dance floors across the world
whilst trailblazing his own definitive direction. Typically punk from
its inception 'Obsolete Medium' is an electronic adrenaline shot that
mixes straight up hard-hitting D&B with sonic experiments that will
leave jaws well and truly dropped. Including collaborations with some of
his most respected peers namely Sam Binga, Breakage, Phace and
Hyroglifics, Rockwell delivers a truly engrossing album encapsulating
his growth from drum & bass artist through to one of the most
accomplished music producers and DJ's to have emerged in recent times.
"After a lot of hard work and long days and nights in the studio, I am very proud to present my debut album 'Obsolete Medium'. Being honest, I was struggling for the last few years by trying to write a certain type of music that I thought people were expecting of me, and consequently not making much progress. I took a conscious decision to let the tunes develop organically and not try to force their direction. What resulted is a very naturally constructed collection of music reflecting my wide range of influences - punk drum fills, techno basses, dusty white noise and neon synths - whilst not heavily mirroring anything too obviously specific, and eschewing many of the cliches of modern dance music production. All the while, not taking the process too seriously and not being afraid to poke fun at myself and the traps of being an electronic music producer. I'm really happy to have a some of my friends on here with me including Breakage, Sam Binga, Hyrogliphics and long time sparring partner Phace. Shouts to you guys. I think that if you have found anything in my production, from the early days of 'Stowaway Dub' to 'Childhood Memories' to more recent tunes like 'Detroit', there should be something on the LP that will strike a chord with you.
