(2x12" & 10" VINYL) - Bristol-based Owen Brown aka Clarity has rapidly become one of the leading names to watch in the progression of Drum and Bass music. Having stumbled upon the genre at the age of 14, within two years Clarity managed to write music that was immediately supported by top names like dBridge, Doc Scott, Loxy, Jubei, Skeptical and Grooverider. Inevitable signings to respected labels followed swiftly with imprints such as Med School, Samurai Music, Cylon, Horizons, and dBridges' mighty Exit Records label stepping up to launch the Clarity name and sound proudly to the world.
Stripping the core elements of Drum and Bass down to a refined, unique groove, his style has become unmistakable. The Clarity sound is fortified with a structure that binds itself firmly to Techno and propels what you know as Drum and Bass into an entirely different realm with each sound carrying its ultimate weight as a result of this minimal, but focused delivery.
2013 saw Clarity signed to Samurai Music to produce his debut LP 'Infinite'. Spreading his approach across diverse rhythmic structures, BPM's and 'genre's, 'Infinite' is a concise summary of Clarity's talent and amply rewards the faith many have placed into his ability to craft a landmark LP that will stand for years to come as a shining light for forward thinking music of any genre.
Clarity is renowned for his ability to sculpt intense dance-floor tools, and 'Infinite' contains no shortage of these with tracks like 'Surge', 'Talk Back' and 'Inclination' displaying guttural kick drums and hypno sonics. But the LP is by no means a variation on his most noted theme.
'Cryptid' is a nod to 140 BPM at it's best, while 'Reflex' a taste of his adopted hometowns signature style. 'Malformation' and Segment (with Skeptical) tip the rhythmic structure into an off kilter bounce to great success. 'Kaitain' is a techno tune, Clarity style, and as expected would not sound out of place in the hallowed halls of Berghain. 'Cyclone' (with Indigo) proves to be an LP highlight, with their 2 styles marrying over a bond of white noise, and album closer 'Subterrane' (with Ena) piles more hypnosis on top of a delicious groove.
'Infinite' lives up to it's promise, a confident signpost at the very pinnacle of progressive Drum and Bass music by a 20 year old producer who seems to have a musical maturity few artists in this genre achieve in their entire careers. 'Infinite' shows Clarity is one of the very few producers operating in Drum and Bass today that genuinely embodies the futuristic musical spirit that this music was forged on.
